May 27, 20243 min read

Life can often feel like a whirlwind of responsibilities, deadlines, and pressures. As a wellbeing counsellor and coach, I understand the weight that stress can place on your shoulders, and I have had my fair share of stressful moments too! But there are things I have learnt to do that really help me to keep the pressure in check. In this post, I intend on sharing these tools and strategies with you to help you ease some of your daily stress.

1. Embracing Exercise as a Stress-Buster

Stress often emerges when our minds are racing, and we feel there's too much on our plate. Exercise not only enhances your physical health but also serves as a potent stress-buster. Engaging in regular physical activity can release those feel good endorphins which help to reduce stress. Even just 20 minutes a day spent getting your heart rate up can be so incredibly valuable for your wellbeing. It really is my self-care number one practice.

2. Choice and Boundaries

Feeling understood and supported is essential in managing stress. Establishing healthy boundaries and having a sense of autonomy over the choices you make is crucial. It involves learning to articulate your needs in both your personal and professional life and confidently saying no when necessary. These boundaries play a pivotal role in effectively managing your stress levels.

3. Prioritised Quality Sleep

Winding down before bed and establishing a consistent sleep routine is paramount in managing stress. Do you have an effective bedtime ritual? Listening to a meditation or using a hypnosis recording, can help calm your mind and prepare your body for restorative sleep. Ensuring you get enough sleep and maintaining a regular sleep schedule can significantly reduce stress and improve overall wellbeing.

4. Your Network Matters

As a wellbeing counsellor, I often emphasise the importance of seeking support. Connect with friends, family, or a counsellor who can provide a safe space for you to express your feelings and concerns. Sharing your experiences and seeking advice from those who care about your wellbeing can be helpful to maintain a perspective and manage your mind.

5. A Regulated Nervous System Stops Stress in its Tracks

Stress-reduction techniques like  breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation, and somatic movement therapy can be invaluable tools in helping you manage stress. These practices assist to release physical tension and balance your nervous system, allowing you to face potential stressors with much greater resilience.
